Percussion Concerto in progress

Posted on Sunday 13 November 2005

Currently I’m in the middle of writing a new Percussion Concerto for the amazing percussionist, Evelyn Glennie. It is being performed next year in Brisbane by The Queensland Orchestra (4 March).

It’s going pretty well at the moment. There are three main movements. The first is entitled “Sec Cymbals”, and uses only cymbals of varying descriptions. After a tam-tam interlude, the second movement is entitled “Good Vibes” and features the vibraphone. The final movement is entitled “Drummer Queen”, and, as is probably obvious, features a whole lot of drumming.

Hello Matthew. I heard your percussion concerto. on ABC radio. It was stunning, I loved the timbres and textures you used. Is there a recording available? Emma
